Taking a Break

Due to the birth of a certain little boy, we were unable to take our annual beach trip. With school starting just about the time we were figuring it all out, it just made for lousy timing.  And now that Lily is in K5, she is in school five days a week, all day. Not that I can't pull her out of school, it is just a bit trickier than before.

Knowing that she would have 2 days off for fall break, we planned a long weekend out of town. And it was a great weekend away. I think we need more weekends like it!

We packed our bags and food and pack in play and headed out to the lake. We are so blessed to have friends willing to let us use their home. It's hard to pass up free!

Thursday it was supposed to rain all afternoon. JD and Lily got up and headed out to the gold course early to hit some balls on the driving range. They had such a fun time. Lily loved getting to drive the golf cart!

We stayed inside all afternoon with the ominous look of rain outside. The house has two AMAZING porches, one of which has a swinging bed. Max and I enjoyed a little nap.

We love to eat outside when we are at the beach. And we are thankful we could enjoy the changing leaves outside during dinner while at the lake.

About the time we had given up on the rain and headed outside, it started to rain. Ugh. Fortunately, it didn't last but a short time.

Friday we got up and headed out to do some hiking/letterboxing. We were super frustrated with the directions and not being able to find the boxes. Then we figured out we had started in the wrong spot. Before we got going again, we went ahead and ate our lunch in the car and I fed Max. While I was feeding him, the other two were hitting "golf rocks". Pretty funny if you ask me.

We then hit the trails again, this time with a bit more luck. Now everyone's happy!

The little one couldn't stay awake.

At the end of the trail we got a nice prize.

After that trail we wanted to go see an incomplete railroad tunnel. It was pretty cool to walk 1/4 mile inside this tunnel. You can read all about it here.

After dinner that night we headed down to the firepit to make smores! Lily had never had them before. And she loved them! We were sugaring her up after her bedtime. We asked her how late she wanted to stay up and she said 10. So we let her. She was about to fall asleep on the couch, but she survived. And the whining wasn't too bad the next day. Ha!

We had such a good time getting away for a few days to escape all the to-dos and just enjoy being a family of four.
