1st Grade in a Box

After much research and prayer, we finally decided on a curriculum to use for 1st grade. We decided to go with Sonlight. It is a literature based curriculum from a Christian company. It is an all in one box that I was looking for this first year. And with it being literature based, there are lots and lots of books for Lily and I to read together. I love that all the lesson plans are laid out for me. No outside planning. Since I have not been given the gift of teaching, this is HUGE! We are starting with an Intro to the World Cultures for history, language arts, and Bible.  In science we will be studying biology, botany, and physics. I did have to chose my math (Horizons) and handwriting (A Reason for Handwriting), both of which came with the Sonlight Core package.

One of the things I love about Sonlight is it comes with a payment plan. And the curriculum also comes with a money back guarantee! So, if you spend money on it and don't like it, they will refund your money--even if you use the curriculum! Sounds like a perfect place to start for our family. We hit purchase and began the wait for our boxes to arrive!

And then out of the blue, they arrived! We are both super excited!

And we couldn't open the boxes fast enough!

Look at all those books--in the little box!

And before the day was done we started our first book! She was so excited to read about dolphins.

Unfortunately, the book was over her head. So the next day she picked a new book and we headed outside to read Beezus and Ramona. She liked this one much better. Plus, how much fun is it to read on the swing?

We are all excited about this journey this year. Is this the perfect curriculum choice? Only the Lord knows. Will we homeschool forever? Only the Lord knows. He is directing us each and every step of the way. We continue to trust that he will show us what to do each and every day that will bring HIM honor and glory!
