Last pregnancy we really struggled to find a boy name. This time we found out we were having a boy ahead of time, therefore we had 21 weeks to find the perfect name for our son. It was just as difficult this time around as it was the last time!
But after much discussion, we finally settled on Ian Daniel.
Ian means gift from God.
Daniel means God is my judge.
With Max we really enjoyed that he is named after family who have had great impact on our life. And we decided to do the same with this one...in a way.
We had first talked about using David, to name him after JD, but neither of us were sold on it. We decided to go the reverse look up method and found that Ian has the same meaning as Daddy's name. What's ironic...it was the middle name we had chosen for our first boy and was never used because we had a girl. I love being able to honor my husband, who is an incredible man of God, by naming our son after him...in a sort of round about way.
The name Daniel is also from a family member who impacted JD's life. Growing up without a dad was hard. When JD was 10 years old his oldest sister married a man who would become that father figure JD needed. Whether is was hunting, house projects, or fixing cars, this man taught JD everything he so often uses today.
Yet, the one part of their relationship JD will always cherish was his teaching him God's commands. This impacted JD the most and I know my husband would be a completely different man today if that relationship had not been there.
There were probably a lot of things this 25 year old newlywed could have been doing, but he chose to invest in the life of a "younger brother". We pray that Ian would have the chance one day to do the same...make a lasting impression on someone who needs it.
