The Nursery

It is amazing how much differently I have prepared for this baby. Just this last week (37 weeks pregnant) we got everything set up, bed made, walls painted, and clothes washed. I guess having one baby makes you more relaxed the second time around.

The crib was actually set up back in October when we had some friends stay with us. I couldn't let a sweet girl sleep in a pack n play for 8 days! And since we were about 8 weeks along at the time, we busted out that crib. And it just stayed up.

The dresser came out of its hiding spot after Christmas when we brought back furniture from Texas. And that meant the desk/office items had to find a new home. That is when we transformed the living room into the new office. And we love it! It is so great to be able to sit and type on the couch and then hide the computer/keyboard/mouse in the cabinets. Genius, that husband of mine! (We also cut the cable with the room redo. We LOVE that extra $$ each month. Well, the OB is enjoying it at least.)

And so that is how things sat for several months. In early May we had a yard sale to get rid of all the JUNK that we had been keeping in the office (now nursery), garage, and all other nooks and crannies around the house.

With that sale, we were able to do a great reorganization of the garage. It looks awesome (well, as awesome as a garage can look). The desk and TV are to be Craigs-listed which will make the clean space even cleaner. And the 3 last tubs will be finding a home as well. I know the pictures really don't do it justice, so take my word for it--it IS more organized.

But you really don't care about the garage. I know. But first things first. And the garage was first.

Now that that project was completed, we could get on with the baby prep. The plan is to use the same bedding we did with Lily. Neutral bedding complemented with gender specific paint. Her room was painted purple when she was a baby.

Originally, the plan was to find another girl color and keep the same complimenting blue color. The only other girly color in the bedding is magenta. It was too much. When we cut back on the wow-factor of that color (by decreasing the brightness by 75%), it kinda looked pepto-ish. What to do? A friend suggested using a teal color that is in the bedding. Genius! And then she found lots of links to show me. And this is our favorite:

Don't you just love the light teal/dark teal contrast? We do! And instead of the white painted chair rail, we are going to go with a gender specific color--orange or magenta. We can't wait to find out what color!!

This is what we have done so far. The furniture will be rearranged after the baby comes, obviously. Until the baby comes, Sarah Kate is using the bed.

We can't wait to show you the finished product! It's going to be great! But I must brag on my husband. The first weekend he was painting he had a helper. For nearly THREE hours she helped him paint. And she did a fabulous job. We were both impressed with how detailed she was and how long her attention span was. JD was a great teacher--full of patience!

 

Doesn't my family do an awesome job? I sure think so!
